Name : Myrrh
Method : Essential oil distilled from gum resin.

Scent : Camphorous, resinous, slightly spicy, deep, mysterious
Colour : Deep golden
Species : Commiphora myrrha
Extracted From : Tree resin. Resinoid is dark brown and has to be thinned for pouring.
Region : Somalia.
Historical : Used in ancient Egypt for rejuvenating face masks. In the Bible, myrrh is one of the gifts brought by the three wise men – the others being gold and frankincense.
Frequently burned as incense.
Of Interest : Name is derived from the Arabic word ‘murr’ meaning ‘bitter’.
Aromatherapy Properties : Athelete’s foot, bedsores, chapped and cracked skin, eczema, gangrene, herpes, ringworm, ulcers, wounds, wrinkles.
Asthma, bronchitis, catarrh, coughs, gum infections, gingivitis, mouth ulcers, sore throat, voice loss.
Diarrhoea, dyspepsia, flatulence, haemorrhoids, loss of appetite. Thrush, pruritis. Colds.
Antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and antifungal. Can be used to treat wounds and for digestive problems.
Blends Well With : Camphor, lavender frankincense, sandalwood, benzion, cypress, juniper, mandarin, geranium, patchouli, thyme, mints, pine and spice oils
Safety Data : Non-toxic. Use in moderation. Avoid if pregnant.

Essential oils are used for blending with carrier base oils to make special blends for massaging the body.

By adding different essential oils to the base carrier oil this then during massage carries the essential oils into the body.

So when mixing essential oil from a recipe please do not add more than recommended for one massage and if the skin is dry and you need more oil just add more carrier base oil not more essential oil.

Essential oils could be used in the bath, in cream, lotion, bath oil, bath salts, bath bombs,
oil burners, inhalers, hot & cold compresses, perfume, soap & candle-making.
